Draw against Meteor and victory over ET returns hopes for LU Football League Top-5
This year, after one round, the LU Football League will split into two groups – the Champions Group, where teams will continue to compete for the major LU Football League honors, and the Hope Group, where teams will compete for the LU Football League Hope Cup.
After FK Lielupe got an important point against one of the league leaders FC Meteor, where our student team could also get 3 points, and after winning over ET with a 3-0, FK Lielupe has returned hopes of getting into the LU Football League Top-5, which will allow the team to continue the competition in Champions Group. It should be noted that Artūrs Sašņikovs had an excellent performance in both games.
In the game against FC Meteor our team had a very good chance to score, Kārlis Villerušs twice hit in the goal post, and we were unable to score in several other great moments. It should be said that FC Meteor football players dominated on the field, but our student team was very disciplined in defence and counterattacking. During the second half Giacomo Nicora got red card for a rough foul, but despite having one man less on the field for several minutes FK Lielupe defended their goal succesfully. This was the first game in this season in which FC Meteor footballers failed to score, which makes the score even more special.
But against ET FK Lielupe had to win to keep the chance to qualify for the Champions groups, only with one note – Ej Tu Nost! team won’t get points in the game against Jautrie Zābaciņi on the same evening. Ej Tu Nost! in a very tough game lost with a score 0:2, but FK Lielupe won with a score 3:0. At the end of the first half, Edijs Šlesers opened the score after an excellent assist by Kārlis Villerušs. In the second half, after a corner kick, Kārlis Villerušs scored the goal by himself. Kristaps Mackovs made a point in the game, scoring a very beautiful goal. Again, Artūrs Sašņikovs had a lot of work to keep clean sheet for the second time in a row.
Now everything is in our own hands, or rather, in our feets. In order to qualify for the Champions Group in the final game of the 1st round, FK Lielupe must win Latgalīte Squad on Monday.
